Also known as the Berlepsch's six-wired bird (Parotia berlepachi) is a medium sized bird of black paradise. The bird is named so because of the six fine feathers on the male's head which can be raised and traumatized in courtship displays. The paradise bird is a member of the Paradisaeidae family and the order Passeriformes. Paradise birds have crow like body structure, long bills and strong feet. The bird has bronze tinged upperparts, noticeable white flank plumes, shimmering coppery greenish breast plumes and six flag tipped head wires. The head wires lack in female and the female has dark barred white lower parts, brown upperparts and rufous wings. The irides of both male and female are white in color. The paradise birds are often considered as a subspecies of the carolas parotia. But the paradise birds have a heavy bronzed feathers and no eye ring. The feathers of the males are highly elongated and the highly structured feathers extend from the beak, wings or the head. The greater bird of paradise is 43cm long. They live in tropical forest including rainforest. The birds of paradise are noted for its beautiful plumes.

The male humming birds have green pileum with red throat. The upper part is bluish in color and the rest of the parts are mostly grayish white. The females have green upper part and pale gray underside. The tips of the female humming birds will have the white spots.

The humming birds can fly at a speed of about 80 km/h. The female humming birds can lay two eggs at a time. The humming birds are seen to be eating every ten minutes. The maximum life span of the humming birds is 8 years.

World's largest birds are the Ostrich. These birds are native to Africa. Ostriches are flightless birds. It is idiosyncratic in its appearance. Ostrich have long legs and necks. So they can run at a speed of about 72 km/h reaching 45 miles/h. These are the fastest running land bird.

Ostrich feed mainly on plant matters and they also feed on insects. The male ostriches are 6 to 9 feet in height while the females are 5.5 to 6.5 feet tall. The eyes of the ostrich are the largest in the world among all the vertebrates. It is about 50 mm in diameter. The skin color of the ostrich varies depending on the species. The beak of the ostrich is flat and broad. The ostriches weights about 150 to 330 pounds. The maximum life span of the ostrich is about 30 to 70 years.

The ostrich are farmed for their feathers, meat, and skins.

Whooping Crane the tallest North American bird is noted for its whooping sound and call is now said to be an endangered bird. Whooping crane along with the Sandhill crane are the only two crane species that are found in North America. The lifespan of the whooping crane is said to be 22 to 24 years.

Adult whooping cranes have red crown and they are white in color. They also have long, dark, and pointed bill. The younger ones are pale brown in color. Their legs are long and are dark in color. During the flight the black wing tips of the adult whooping cranes are visible.

When the adult crane stands it measures about 1.5 m and they weigh about 7.5 kg. Whooping crane has a wing span of about 2.5 m wide. The average flight speed of the whooping crane is 45 km/h.

Whooping cranes feed on snails, larval insects, leeches, frogs, minnows, small rodents and berries. They also feed on dead ducks and marsh birds.

In 1995 there were only 149 whooping cranes and with the conservation efforts now there are about 320 whooping cranes in the world.

Indian Pitta is a medium sized passerine bird. It is seen mostly in the sub Himalayas and in winters it is seen in southern India and Sri Lanka. Pittas are found in thick bushes and they are easily recognized by their voice.

Indian pitta has long and strong legs they have a very short tail and stout bill with colored crown stripe. They have thick black eye stripe and white throat and neck. The upper part of the bird is green in color and they have a blue tail. The lower part is bright red in color. The birds are seen in the ground to hunt their prey and it seems that they got in the traps that are meant for small animals. They fly to trees to rest.

Indian pitta feed on insects and small invertebrates that they found and pick up from the ground and leaf litter.

Parasites that cause avian malaria have been noticed in this species.

Black headed pitta is a sub species of pittas that is found in the Asian regions. Black headed pitta is also called as Graceful Pitta. This species of pitta can be seen mostly in Malaysia and Indonesia.

The natural habitat for the black headed pitta is the subtropical and tropical moist montanes. They feed on insects and spiders. The black headed pitta is now threatened by the habitat loss.

Roadrunner is long legged bird that belongs to the cuckoo family and belongs to the genus Geococcyx. The road runner is also known as chaparral cock.

The roadrunner measures about 56 centimeters and weighs about 300 grams. Roadrunner is the largest North American cuckoo. They have a bushy crest, long dark bill, long dark tail and the dark head which is black in color. The front part of the neck and the belly is blue in color. On each foot they have four toes of which two faces forward and the rest facing backward.

The bird has the ability to walk rapidly and they feed on insects, small reptiles, birds, scorpions, rodents, tarantulas, fruits and seeds.

Whipper is a Budgerigar that lives in Winton in the southland district of New Zealand. It has an unusual appearance with long curly plumage and vocalization.

When the whipper was placed with his mother it was been rejected then its owner took a personal care of the bird. The separation from its own species made change in its unique vocal sounds. And later when it was reintroduced into other budgerigars it has normal calls.
